For one thing, I don't think the steering wheel center (pad) was leather.

I would echo Mike's comment. The center of the steering wheel not leather.

I believe some folks have put that in place however.

For certain late VINs, we covered that here. I wrote liner because I think earlier it was not made of leather, but vinyl, if I remember correctly.

I am not sure, but we were discussing that the soft top front cross re-enforcement was finished with beige vinyl for certain cars, not with upholstery material.

The box between the seats had a vinyl liner with an embossed edge. These were discontinued and converted carpet at 280 SL VIN ending with 12089. From the list of changes put together in Engelen's book and done in English in Pagoda World 25.

I still have the vinyl liner for the box between the seats for my 1966 239SL.  Although it is the same color as the rest of the interior, it is not the same vinyl as the MB Tex.  It had a foam backing which gone away over the years but the vinyl itself is still in pretty good shape.

I think the arm rests were not leather but vinyl.

I think the arm rests were not leather but vinyl.
Is that true Tony?
Anyone else know?
My arm rests, on the door panels, look like leather to me.

They were vinyl but covered in leather just like the dash pieces.

Were the ashtray and window handle pads in leather or vinyl on leather optioned cars? I’ve gotten contradictory information.  At the bottom of the interior colors section in the tech manual,  it clearly states they were leather trimmed but I’ve heard that is incorrect.

My car has leather interior and I am pretty sure the window crank handle inserts are some kind of vinyl, not leather.

Hi Mike
What about the ashtray cover and the pull knob area for the rear window defogger?
