Key fob design in the 1960’s

Hi everyone

I’m wanting to find a ‘period’ Mercedes Benz key fob for Bessy, a1964 pagoda

I’m having trouble identifying what the Mercedes Benz fob design was at that time. There seem to be ones with ‘filled’ backgrounds whilst others the gaps between the star is cut out.

Does anyone happen to have an original key fob, of this period, that they can post Lon the forum so I know what I should be looking for? 😁

I am sure this probably isn't the era key fob you are thinking of, but maybe a consideration of one for your car

I think the ones on the right are the ones I've seen in earlier Pagodas. (but, I could be wrong)

I bought some NOS originals from the local dealer some years back. It definitely is like the one shown in the owners parts book diagram. If I can find one I'll post the picture soon.

Original from 1964 230SL. This car was my Uncle’s and preceded his 1969 280SL which is what I have now.

Three point star embossed onto both sides of brown leather, molded into plastic screw heads that hold the key, and also stamped into one side of key.

The design on the left, like the one Michael is showing an original of is definitely what was used in the later Pagodas, also after they changed the ignition key ( which also worked the doors and trunk?) to a plastic end.  The earlier Pagodas like the 1963, possibly even up to 250s, I think used the earlier fob like the one on the right in the link and the ignition key did not have a plastic end (and had other keys) or work other locks on the car.  The question was about a 1964 230.

I must admit, I didn’t even know they made, what I would consider to be a key case, back then!?!?

What I was thinking of is more like these? Albeit the seller states these are for MBs of the 1970s/80s. So what was the style of earlier fobs?

This is what came with my 1966 230SL made in about September 1965.  I do not know if it was from the dealer or from the factory.  It was was given to me at delivery of the car new in February 1966.  As you can see, it has quite a bit of use.  You might be able to see traces of the Mercedes star on one side or what is left of it.

These are described as keyrings from the late 50's or 60's, made in England, so perhaps it was down to the dealer if these were supplied with cars, rather than being provided by the factory

I bought one a few years ago similar to the one in Katie's top picture, probably from the same company, clearly not original to Pagoda's as these are from the 70's or 80's, but better than anything else i could find on the market

Yes, same chap!

I like the one he had for sale with ‘torpedo’ fob, even if for an earlier Mercedes, but not seen anywhere else 😔

Here is the original one that came with my 280sl in 1969.

I have bought fobs for all my cars from Richard.  He offers them in a wide variety of styles and the quality is excellent.  I did have an issue with the enameling on one that he made for me, but he immediately replaced it.  I prefer these to the OE Mercedes style.
