M127 valve cover
« on: January 13, 2022, 16:29:13 »
Guys and girls,
More I read about it, more confusing it becomes.
For the 1966 230SL, which is the correct valve cover?
The big or the small oil cup?

FYI, the thread on valve cover cap is the same as the gas cap on early ponton Model MB cars, just the gasket is different.

Joe,

Just out of curiosity, what gasket material is used for the V. cover cap and then the gas cap?

Fuel cap is some sort of fiber similar to cork while the valve cover is some sort of rubber material on cars of this vintage or earlier.

Thanks. That is what I have on my W128 and hoping it is correct. Got to get it right some of the time!

Small cap is mid 69 and up M130 engine. I assume it came in with the new head design.

So, this woman walks into the parts counter at the car dealership and says:

"I need to buy a 710 cover"

The parts guy is stumped, doesn't know what she wants.
After some fruitless discussion, he asks her if she can draw a picture of what the thing looks like.
And so she does...

Rainman Ray's heart is bleeding...

I watched a number of his videos lately. Aside from his annoying habit of saying click all of the time he certainly is an efficient mechanic.

Gentlemen...,
Don't get tempted here.
Make sure you get the right one.
For our (later) cars only the 730 cap is the correct one ...  :D
