Wiper motor crank linkage removal - small question

Hi All,

I have a short question as I need to remove the wiper motor in order to remove rust & repaint the area where the motor sits.

Important: I do not want to change any linkage settings, basically just put the motor back in again afterwards.

Can I basically "lever" the crank off (area 1 on picture) or will this break the bushing? I assume if I remove the nut (area 2 on picture), I run the risk of misalignment when putting it back together...

I do not remember if you can easily pry it out, but do not worry about the misalignment as it is super easy to align it back again.

This bushing is not sold as a separate part. The whole crank is, but I do not see it available with the usual suspects.

I would not risk messing around with it as, again, re-alignment is super easy. The levers need to form s straight line, like on the picture here: https://www.sl113.org/wiki/ChassisBody/Wipers
with wipers blades in parking position.

I would replace all the rubbers - motor base and in motor mounts.

I have never done that and I have a complete NOS wiper linkage (in case I need it some day) but someone told me long time ago, in order to replace it, the windshield must come out. Is this true?

The windshield doesn’t need to come out but a lot of stuff underneath or behind the dash has to be removed in order to get to it.

I think the WW transmission was the first item I installed under the dash.  I had to loosen and move it around a bit to get the defrost vents installed. There may something else that isn't in the way but offhand I couldn't tell you what it is. So Dirk is right - just about everything behind the dash has to be removed to get at it. A good reason to lube the posts occasionally.  Lee
