Rubber Seal for Front Wheel Well Splash Guards

For the body experts out there I am not seeing how the rubber seal is properly attached to the splash guards. In earlier posts the orientation of the seal to splash guard is explained but the metal splash guard, at its lower end (nearest the rocker panel) has bends in two different planes. See picture 0060.

I can force the rubber seal in both planes as seen in 0061 or I can cut the seal below the clip in picture 0057. The seal is an MB original and it doesn't seem like MB would provide a seal that had to have several inches cut out of it (but it does have a part number beginning with 107). But it also doesn't seem as though the seal is made to change planes as would be required if its not cut.

To clarify positioning, looking at image 0057, the pointed end of the splash guard at the left is at the bottom of the wheel well and nearest the rocker panel, at the right in that photo is the section of the splash guard at the very top of the fender.

Looked at many Motoring Investment images but the location of this panel and seal are such that the front tire is in the way of getting a good camera shot behind it.

Hi Lee,

the seal doesn't take the turn onto the rocker panel flange, just cut it to fit. Be sure to use the 3M gasket adhesive and make sure its all the way seated on the flange.

Yes, I have the 3M gasket adhesive and will make sure its seated and secure on the flange.

I didn't take this car apart so some of the reassembly has been quite a puzzle. Thanks again. And great photo.

Splash guards ? I have never seen these before. Were they a factory option for all pagodas ?
How many of you guys have these on their cars ? Were they body colored ?

Hi Zak,

Its my understanding all cars came off the line with them. If MB hadn't designed them in, rust would have been an even greater problem since water and mud would be thrown off the front wheels into a huge open cavity.

As to color, mine were painted body color and when my car was painted, we painted these in body color. I believe that is correct but don't know it to be factually correct.

Thanks again to Chris. I cut the rubber seals at what seems to be the right place and installed the shields but the screws I had earmarked to use weren't big enough. After I get some larger size screws I will post more pictures of the finished install. Of course, it won't look any different from Chris's photo except for the color.   Lee

I am working on these too. All cars had them and they were body color.

I concur, the inner splash panels should be painted to match the body.

The wheels wells should also be painted to body color.

Yes, front only. I think if you don’t have them, you are collecting a lot of dirt and debris in between the inner fender and the body. That’s quiet a gap.
These are available and not very expensive.
