Metallic over Metallic
« on: October 15, 2022, 21:40:49 »
A friend of mine just sent me photos from his visit of the Mercedes museum in Stuttgart. Of course he sends me photos of the 230SL knowing my obsession with Pagoda’s.
Whilst we know this car has some non-standard features it is two-tone …… Metallic over Metallic ( factory correct?).

I believe this to be uncommon, but l do have one (387 over 906) - just curious if there are others out there amongst our group?

Cheers

Don't put a lot of stock in the museum Pagoda. There are a number of "interesting" things about it. The color combo for one, but it has three horns and chrome wheel arch trim.

It does have the square exhaust tips though.

I don't understand the question. I have seen the museum Pagoda several times and I do have the souvenir postcard picture. What on the car is unusual two-tone? The body and the hard-top being two different colors?

Agreed Jonny - wrong rear view mirror for a 230SL also.
It just prompted me to consider two-tone metallics.

Hi Mike, the museum car is clearly a two-tone Metallic.
Metallic Blue over Tunis Beige. ( no idea if this was its factory colours )

I believe most of the two-tone cars have a solid colour roof over solid colour body ( or Metallic body).

Rarely do you see a metallic roof over a metallic body. I have such a car, and l was curious to know if there are others out there.

Well, it is a few years ago, so we don't know for sure, but I would think a customer could order whatever color combo they wanted - aside from MB suggestions. But as the hardtop was not standard and a stand-alone option, color selection would have been up to the customer?

I believe MB had suggested paint combination options similar to suggested trim options.

Interesting to see if any/how many of the group have metallic over metallic.

Thanks Gary,

But that would not be classed as two-tone if body and roof were the same ☺️

I was specifically interested in two-tone cars where body and roof(and hubcaps) were different coloured …..but both metallic.
