Nice.

I still like our first logo, and have that sticker on my Pagoda still.

I recall the discussion about it, and we chose the less-conventional image (compared to what we have today) to celebrate the accomplishment in the Spa-Sofia-Liege rallye.

I totally agree that the first decal is a Classic identifying Pagoda racing history.

As has been written: "After  an exhaustive race across Europe from Liege/Belgium in the West to Sofia/Bulgaria in the East and then back to Liege, the red 230Sl with start number 39 scored in his first rally ever over the SAAB and Austin-Healy teams that dominated rallying at that time."

The first logo, as it were, never agreed with my own sense of design. I never bonded with the look, and while I may have the window stickers somewhere I never put them on my car. I had nothing to do with either the first or the present logos. I don't know where either originated. Celebrating the Pagoda's one time early achievement was clearly a design element some chose for the first logo, while careful thought for future logo use was considered for the present.

I will say, however, that the present logo lends itself to traditional logo usage. Thus, with the present logo, we were able to use it to arrange the grill badges to be made, the accompanying hat/lapel pins, the more recent 15th anniversary membership hat/lapel pins, the coming embroidered patch and use as an embroidered design at the coming Lands' End store. None of these items, embraced by our members, would have been possible with the first logo. You cannot cast a 4/C screened photograph into a metal badge, and you cannot embroider the same either.

From left to right in the photo: the grill badge (2018 project); the embroidered patch (2023 project); the hat/lapel pin (2018 project); the 15th anniversary membership pin (2021 project)

For those that don't know about these...and the inevitable questions that may come:

1. The grill badge and accompanying pin were produced together in 2018. We will probably do another run in 2024. None are presently available.
2. The embroidered patch has been produced and expect information on that in early 2023. Stay tuned in January for information on how to get yours.
3. The 15th anniversary membership pin was produced in 2022 and distributed to all members with 15 years of continuous membership. Those who reach the 15 year mark soon will receive theirs in early 2023.

At the Group's creation, apparently nobody in our very small group of leadership and members had the skill to create a nice logo.  A photo was selected and we moved on.  The new one is obviously better for merch.

Michael has almost got the answer right.
The background to the change in design came about due to trying to price up some metal badges or embroidered patches and stickers for, if i can remember correctly, was the 50th anniversary in 2013 and with a three or four colour badge the cost was prohibitive so the Board at that time decided to run a comp to create a new design.
With some minor modifications, the current design was agreed and has been used ever since.
