That's cool looking. I never actually thought about how different the area behind the seats would look with no top cover. Pretty neat. I have heard of people adding tops to cars. That must be MAJOR surgery!

My experience is that coupes generally go for a pretty steep discount. I've seen some decent looking coupes fetch several thousand less than their roadster counterparts in comparable condition. Personally, I think it would be kind of fun to have one just for the novelty......

An estimate of the cost of adding the softtop to a coupe is $3000-4000. The top frames are expensive if you can find them. Gernold Nisius (SL Tech in Maine - see vendor listing) is specialized in this conversion and sells the frames restored.

of course, some people on this list might have a spare soft top frame that they would be willing to part with.  If anyone is interested, I do have one, in NJ (I don't know how you would ship it) and make me an offer.

Hi Cees,

Do you mean the cost of adding the softop to a coupe (a Pagoda ordered without softop, but with the complete folding top case, cover, handle and locking system, etc) or to a California (which has all this area empty)? Because it's not the same "surgery"!

Regards,

I think either way you are looking at a lot of money, since the softtop frame will be the greatest part of the conversion cost. But the coupe will be easier and less costly to convert than the "California" with the rear seat, since you don't have to add the well I suppose.
