That is a rather scary looking car in a scary looking auction.

Funny that the seller is "knowledgeable" about the number of 1967 280SLs built at 143 (?) yet, the chassis serial number is 8068, which would make this car a February 1969 production. Wonder how he came up with this being a 1967 ?

Right. Wasn't worth bothering to mention that (since I have a January 1969 production, -7262)...and the seller isn't answering anything.

Try selling cars for a while and you'll learn quickly just how much of your time can be wasted on so called buyers with empty pockets. Some are very legit but it can be difficult to wade through them.
People asking questions or posting comments on internet auction sites means next to nothing if they aren't serious buyers. And who could determine which one that might be?

I had a car sold last summer and after 6 weeks of promises I cut them loose because I guess he couldn't get the funding for a quick flip.

The seller of this car sounds more frustrated than rude but I can see from a casual distance how some could come to that quick conclusion.

All I saw was a low number 3 car for sale. Not 100% complete needing restoration work.  Did I miss something significant here?   :)

You are so right, Dan! You only have to look at BaT! Same people asking the same questions on every auction: Where are the fender notches? Where is the data card? ::)

No matter how you choose to sell your car, you are going to get some tire kickers, so to speak, and a lot of questions. You need to be prepared to answer at least some of them, even if only briefly. That came in on the Hemmings feed today, but it's hardly a new listing with most of the questions going back 4-6 months.

What you may have missed Dan is that many of the questions from lookers went unanswered. Some are "flagged for review" (whatever that means) and others simply not answered at all. There's a marked ramp up in frustration with some lookers.

It may indeed be a#3 Dan, but if the price is $35K and you can drive it away, maybe not so bad in today's market.

Has anyone on this Forum produced a Standard Selling Procedure for W113 Sellers?

This would be a standardised simple checklist of all items that should be included, at a minimum, in an advertisement for someone selling a W113. It would be no means be encyclopaedic, but could cover all the standards data and questions that are going to be asked of someone selling a Pagoda. It could be adjusted for the subtle but important variations between 230/ 250/ 280 models.

It could be downloaded and universally used and accepted by all BAT/ Hemmings/ Mercum etc sellers. The collective knowledge on this forum should be able produce one and it could add further value and branding to the group.

Just a thought…

I guess you can always reverse use the buyers checklist in our Tech Manual to ensure you cover all those areas as a seller.

I am not sure, but I think the pictures of the engine are from this auction at BaT
