A very rare Original Irish 1966 Mercedes-Benz Pagoda (W113)
Full body restoration and repaint in 2019 at a cost of €90,000
Rare right hand drive model
Fantastic colour combination of Anthracite metallic paintwork and red leather.
This Pagoda was registered to its first Irish owner on July 15th 1966 and has been with its current owner for the last 8 years. In his ownership the car has been correctly maintained and benefited from a full body restoration in 2019 which included removing the engine and gearbox and the replacement of both rear quarter panels and front wings.
The car left the factory in 1966 as a 230SL (2.3 litre) and at some unknown point in its past, the engine was replaced with a correct M130 straight six 2.8 litre engine which results in far better performance for modern driving and it's fair to say that this particular example is very well sorted.
During the 2019 works, the decision was made to paint the car in a period, and model correct Anthracite Metallic (172), rather than it's original non metallic dark green. At that time, when the engine was removed, fully serviced and all perished items replaced and it was the reassembled and prepared for regular use.
The interior has been upholstered in red leather, the seats repadded and new carpets fitted throughout. The soft top frame was stripped of its old tired canvas hood and a new black roof fitted. The supplied hard top has also been restored and fitted with a new headlining.
All exterior chrome has perfect finish and there's virtually no sign of patina. Each wheel has been fitted with correct Michelin MXV tyres which give a period correct look with the reassurance of modern tyre design. On the open road this Pagoda performs faultlessly with great performance, effortless gear changes and spirited handling.
An absolutely fantastic investment for any car collector, this would look the part in anyone's garage, and even better rolling down the street turning heads and dropping jaws.
