Identify prop/drive shaft
« on: February 23, 2023, 23:20:48 »
I am in need of help to identify the prop shaft that I just removed from my 230SL.  After the removal and during my inspection, I decided that it would be a good idea to replace the universal joints.  My universal joints are not held in place with spring clips on the top of the cap but clips under the yoke.  As I am am doing my rolling restoration, I have found parts that have been changes with non 230SL parts.
Therefore, I feel that there is a good possibility that my prop shaft came from another model.

- Universal joints do not look like any sold for a 23SL
- This shaft has a slip joint next to the carrier barring.
- The only part number I can find in on a yolk starting that starts with 114
- There is a Mercedes star and B & H stamped on the end of the shaft
- The slip joint end has a fiber seal pocked to keep the grease in the slip joint

My goal is to find the universal joints that will fit this shaft.

Alex,
the 230 U-joints are secured with retaining rings were as the later (280's) U joints are peened to secure.
I have a 66 as well and can post some pictures for comparison later?

Take a look. I rebuild it and had it balanced afterward.

I’m a believer now. I have the correct shaft.

Thank you all.
