Data Code 248 - Information Needed
« on: July 17, 2023, 23:58:10 »
On Code 248, it is for heated rear glass for a hard top with “Compound Glass”.

What is compound glass?

Also, the center console has two knobs, one green and one white. I am assuming one turns the heated glass on, but how should these work and what do they do?

The green knob is to control the red fog light that was mounted on or under(don't recall which) fog light that was a requirement in some European countries.  The white button is for the rear window defroster. Both knobs should pull up for on and push down for off.

Hi,
compound glass or composite glass see here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Composite_glass.
Information about rear fog lights see here: https://www.sl113.org/forums/index.php?topic=34957.msg255797#msg255797. Works in combination with front fog lights only.

I have similar or same configuration in my car: it came with heated rear window in hard top and with rear fog light (no additional front fog lights).

The knobs should have little bulbs inside that lit up when you switch the function on.

For the heated rear window - you should have a pocket in upholstery on pillar B (left hand side for LHD cars) with a snap button. There is a wire with a plug inside this pocket that you connect to the wire coming from hard top.

I actually use this switch for Day Running Lights as we have to have them here.

For the rear fog light, if it was factory installed, you should have two holes in the rear left bumper (LHD cars) for the fog light bracket. Well described in Technical Manual.

"Compound Glass" is commonly called "Laminated Glass". Usually on front windshields. The rear heated window on my hardtop is "delaminating". A replacement is probably impossible to find.

It is difficult indeed...

I spoke recently to a representative of one of the automotive glass manufacturer. He said they were working on it. If by any chance this will prove to be true, I will post it here.
