Where to sell a project car?
« on: September 22, 2023, 14:03:57 »
I got a PM from an older member here who has a project car, says all the parts are there and 80% complete on the body shell at least. It was started as a rotisserie restoration (and is on a rotisserie now) Like so many others he's not one to make postings. He has decided that he will not be able to complete the restoration due to age.

My questions to the group are, how does one price a project car, and where is the best place to attempt a sale?

FYI the car is a 1971 280SL

I would suggest BaT as there are project cars put up on that site fairly frequently.  He/she needs to have as large an audience as they can get because there are only a certain number of people willing and able to tackle a project car.  On that note, he/she also needs to be interactive with the site during the actual auction if they want to get top dollar.

Michael, is he able to post pictures and details here? Our website is a wonderful place to start.

Mike, is this car located in Georgia by chance? Sounds like a member I spoke to years ago.

I feel the car itself is not a good candidate for BaT, as well due to the seller's age, the amount of physical effort and energy it takes to properly list a car on there would not be realistic for them.

On another hand, I know a good buyer for this car. I will introduce the two of you next week at PagodaFest.
