Removing Factory Bumper Guards!

I know this has probably been discussed a bunch but don't have clear answer yet.

Can you remove the factory front and rear bumper guards and make it look like the versions that did not get them? I am assuming a bolt or filler piece is needed?

Looks SO MUCH cleaner without them!

Buy a set of repro bumpers and store the originals. I too, am not a fan of bumper guards, on any 60's car.

a good chrome plating company can weld the holes closed and re-chrome the bumper.
If well done, you won't see anything.
Re-chroming is expensive however.

The easiest and least costly option for you is to get small chrome hole covers. They are little chrome plated buttons that basically fit inside various sized holes. Getting a new set of reproduction bumpers is many hundreds of dollars, getting your original bumpers repaired by welding, and then re-plated is thousands.

Sometimes they are called tubing covers, and you may have to search a bit to find ones in the right size. Here’s what they look like.

Personally, I’ve never minded my bumper over riders, and thank goodness I had them on the trip to Chicago for Pagodafest. I was able to loop a fan belt over them and hang my exhaust system from one!

I used some chrome caps that come with the screws you use to fix a mirror to the wall, they come with a tiny screw thread on the back that usually screws into the top of the screw and were also metal. Just glued them into place.
No dought you can get the same in the US, you can usually get ANYTHING there.
