help needed - #6 Fuse blows when starting the car
« on: December 28, 2023, 01:55:29 »
I recently took the blower motor out for a cleaning and replaced it. Ever since, when I go to start the car the fuse blows and the motor doesn't work. If I replace the fuse while the car is running, the blower motor works fine.

Any ideas or suggestions on what to do? I'm not sure of next steps...thanks in advance.

Hi,
what rating does your fuse have? Usually a 25A fuse is used there.
Which new fan motor are you using? Maybe it needs a higher rating.
What about your blower switch? Is it turned on or off during start?

Thanks for your reply WRe,

I should clarify that I didn't replace the blower motor only took it out to clean the housing unit and put it back in. I am using a 25A fuse.
The blower switch is turned off when starting.

I would risk the statement that blowing of the fuse No. 6 may have very little or nothing to do with the blower motor. It is also the fuse responsible for automatic starting aids and this is probably where I would look for culprits - by eliminating components one by one.

Why it coincided with blower motor cleaning, I have no clue.

As suggested by Pawel look at the wiring diagram published on this site.  You will notice that fuse No.6 feeds the COLD STARTING AIDS (relays CSV and Fuel enrichment selenoid) as well as the HEATER BLOWER MAIN SWITCH.

AS you manipulated the wiper motor, by cleaning it, it could be that the plug connector opened during the operation and that you misplaced the pin terminals inside.  That could be a possibility.

Nevertheless, as you indicate that the fuse burns every time you crank the engine, then as Pawel suggest your problem is on any of the cold start aids that may have a contact touching ground

Disconnect the blower switch terminal and if the fuse no.6 still blows every-time you start the car, then Pawel hypothesis was correct and your problem is definitely related with any of the cold start aid hot terminals touching ground.

Look at the intake manifold the connections for the CSV (cold start valve injector) or also at the back of your injection pump to see if Fuel enrichment selenoid is properly connected.

If none of those are the culprit, then pray 2x Ave Marias and 1 x holy father.

Best regards

Ps hope to not have offended any Christian here, since I am also one, and the comment above is an innocent joke

Thanks lpeterssen,

I'll try that and report back to see if it works. Thanks!
