W111 armrest
« on: February 14, 2024, 09:18:17 »
The interlocking mechanism for the front armrest does not engage to click into an up or down position. It looks like it may be missing a plastic insert that would fit over the male part but I can't find any information on armrests in this car. Any thoughts?

Sorry I'm not entirely clear on your question but I can confirm that the arm rests on my '69 280se cab do not lock in either the up or down position. The arm rests appear to have what I would call a white plastic collared insert that may fit over a pin but the arm rests rotate freely from either up or down positions –IOW there is no locking pin or pawl to engage anything.

Does that help?

I think it does.  I'm guessing that the plastic insert, when new, provided enough friction to hold it in the up and down positions.

I know absolutely nothing about this fitting, so here are my thoughts, for what they're worth.

From the photo in your first post, what I might expect to see is a ball bearing and spring setup that "clicks" into the two holes at the top and bottom of the armrest travel.  At least, that's what those holes look like to me.

Ooh that's a great suggestion. I'll try it next time I see my baby (I'm living overseas so it'll be a while)
