Manual shift lever
« on: April 01, 2024, 06:40:39 »
I wonder if anyone knows the reason why in late 1965 the shift lever was changed from being straight to angled forward?
I have to bend forward to put in the third instead of just moving my arm.
I have now changed the 4-speed to a 5-speed Getrag and then I took the opportunity to mount the gear lever so that it is angled backwards and it is a much nicer driving experience as I can have my back against the backrest all the time.
Maybe there is someone who knows the reason.

Maybe 60 years ago people, or the MB design staff, were shorter and had their seats adjusted closer to the steering wheel & shift knob?   ;D

To be able to provide means for adjustment to whatever the driver preferred?

Hi I dont know about the shifter lever but I am curious as to what 5 speed getrag gearbox you fitted.  Can you give any more details please?

The web site w113.eu has all info you need to update your car with a 5-speed tranny.
