help identifying a metal pipe in engine bay
« on: September 06, 2024, 23:23:49 »
I am needing some help identifying this metal pipe in the engine bay. At some point my engine was replaced with a sedan 250SE/C. I've noticed in the pictures that other 230SL's do not have this same metal pipe?

Where is it connected at each end?  Do you have other pics?

That pipe routes coolant from the WRD to the throttle housing, from where it goes to the base of where the water pump is fitted to the engine block.

I think your line is not routed correctly.
My engine picture is an early 280 m130

Coolant did not circulate to the venturi in the early cars like the 230, so the plumbing was different. It only went as far as the thermostat housing on those early cars. Circulating cooling to the venturi prevented ice build-up in cold, wet winter weather.

Thanks everyone for the help...here are a couple of more pictures of the pipe.

So is this a cooling system pipe? Is it routed correctly? Again this engine came from a sedan 250 SE/C.

That's right on your engine, that's how the pipe runs to the venturi on the 250. I no longer had it in mind.
It warms up the venturi.

Dirk - I like how you have it tucked away under the injection lines. I think I'll do the same.

Going to try and order a new zinc plated one though...anyone know where I can order it?
