Guidelines for submitting an article to Pagoda World magazine

It is generally a good idea to inform the editor before starting work on something in order to guage suitability of content or to avoid duplication of effort.
The contents of previous issues can be found in the Pagoda World Index.

Article preparation involves:
  • Determining whether or not a given article is suitable for publication.
  • Obtaining written permission from each contributor (writers and photographers). An email is fine.
  • Preparing a file with the article body text.
  • Selecting suitable images to accompany the article.
  • Identifying the photographer of each image.
  • Obtaining high-resolution versions of the images.
  • Preparing a file with all figure caption text.
  • Sending this condensed package to the editor.

Suitable topics:
  • Historical articles about events or prominent people affiliated with the pagoda.
  • Coverage of official events or informal gatherings including pagodas.
  • Technical articles on repair, maintenance, restoration or enhancement of any part of a pagoda.
  • Photographs, images and artwork depicting pagodas.
  • Any other topic that might be of interest to pagoda owners.

Article text:
  • Format using any text editor (Word doc, Apple Pages, plaintext, etc).
  • Choose a writing style and be consistent (expository, descriptive, narrative, etc). More information can be found here.

Photographs:
  • Leave the photographs uncropped.
  • Send the highest resolution available.
  • Provide the name of the person who took each photograph.
  • If possible, identify the people or cars depicted in the photo.
  • Provide captions for each photograph.

Copyright:
  • Authors and photographers retain the copyright to their work, but agree to give the Pagoda SL Group non-exclusive rights to print and publish the work, now and in the future.

Communication:
  • Email or send personal messages through the forum.
  • If data files are too large for email, contact the editor for other options.

Feel free to contact me at any time if there are any questions or comments.
