After attending the tech session in Blacklick, I came home to Oregon with a renewed energy to make my car look sharp. I wanted to do a thorough check for rust in all those hidden spaces first. I started in the trunk, removed the 2 pc. mat and pulled the spare with the tire cover out. I found just a liitle surface rust covering only about 1/2 sq. ft in two places. The rust removal was easy and the Krylon flat black paint I used seems to match the original fairly well.
The surprise was when I took the spare tire cover off and found the ORIGINAL spare, the one with the big fat rib on the outside edge of the tire. I don't think it's ever been on the ground. Are many of these still left?
I also wanted to say thanks again to Joe, Rodd and all the others who put the tech sessions together. It was a great educational experience for me and gave me the confidence to do at least some of the less complex tasks associated with caring for these wonderful cars. Everyone I met was helpful and the trip was well worth the crazy Southwest Airlies itinerary Portland - Phoenix - Columbus, Columbus, Las Vegas, Reno, Portland!!!
