B/U Light switch - How to remove wiring at trans
« on: June 09, 2003, 21:53:15 »
Hello All,

How do you remove the wiring from the back-up light switch on a 4spd. trans?
I cleaned it all up nice, and the little bakelite plug(?)with the wires attached rotates on the switch.  I tried pulling, but didn't want to break it..... :?:
Thanks,

Will,
The wires do not come off. They're integral with the switch. You can disconnect it at the plug which sits in a clip on the chassis. Just follow the lead to it.You'll need an open-ended or adjustable wrench to undo it. But before you do, check the plug connector. The terminals may have corroded as it is not very well protected.
I assume you want it out because the lights are not working?

Hi Naj,

The switch still works fine, but I wanted to re-route the wiring over the top of the trans. for better protection.  At present it just hangs loose undeneath, and comes up the RH side to the switch.  I will look for the connector where it comes out of the firewall.
Thanks Naj,

Will,
The plug is on the left of the gearbox on the chassis. There is a clip on the chassis where it clips on (just about where the left chassis leg starts to go up). No need to remove switch. Just split the male-female plug and reroute.
