Anybody in Boston??? Lunch Anyone?
« on: August 10, 2005, 09:39:09 »
I need help with a vehicle inspection in the Boston area! I will be coming to town within the next week and would love to support the local SL community instead of the taxis and or rental car agencies!
We've all gotta eat, right?! And i've gotta give some $ to somebody!

What about a compression test? Does this have to be done at a shop? Not real familiar with what all an inspection can entail.

Thanks in advance!

Steve

There was a guy at the Joe's Ohio Tech Session from Boston.  I think it was this guy:

Maybe "BobbyDuke" can help you?

Also, call ahead and either of these guys might give you an honest evaluation (for a price!):

Is Tom Gernon the guy you're buying it from?

Thanks for the advice...I have tried to contact the one member you thought you saw in Ohio, and have gotten no response. I as well have already corresponded with Alex at Dearborn Auto, and he may be the man. I was actually considering one of his cars as well.
And yes, the car I am looking at is Tom's. Seems to be a really good guy. Has a lot of good documentation on the work he has had done and unless i find out different, has been really up front about all the outstanding issues he knows of with his car.
Any other thoughts you could share based on my posts would be greatly appreciated!

And oh...By the way...

Hatch and Sons is no more. They were bought, or something, by a group called Heritage Automotive I think it was. And as a result of that, the restoration/vintage department was done away with, at least so far as it involved any former Hatch and Son's people.
I do know that the Chief Mechanic John Christiano has opened up his own shop called JTC Auto or something like that in the same general vicinity. I have a call out to him and will let you know what I find so you can share the info with other members if it helps.

All those other guys are 'top dollar, retail guys'.  I've had about every MB problem-burnt valves, fuel pump failure, frozen king pins, rusty tanks, rear end collapse, wiper freeze, electrical fire, distributer orphans, fluid line hemorrghage, cancer rust, classic MB psychic disorder, popped stitches, foggy mirrors, chrome sublimation, custom engineered inheritance, yada yada yada.  Give me a call.

Thanks for the chat the other night Glenn- I appreciate all the info. I also apologize for not getting ahold of you today...I had some, how shall i say...
Major Technical Difficulties.

I did finally get to Boston today, and was able to spend nearly three hours with the car in question.

Check out my post -Help! To Buy Or Not...- for some details of my experience.

I should be able to get in touch with you on Tuesday.

Want to go hunting for Pagodas in the area?
