Why Doug is here
« on: March 15, 2003, 12:43:58 »
Here's my car at a car show last June

(i'm just testing something... i want to know if you can download an attachment, then refer to it and have it displayed both ways.)
(good news for anyone without storage space on a server -- you can upload a photo here with the "attach an image feature," then refer to it with its URL from this site and the image will appear with the post and not just as an attachment.)

Wow! Looks perfect. I even like the wheel wells in body color.

Is this the picture you were planning on submitting to "Pagoda World" for the "what's wrong with this Pagoda" feature?

okay, just a tiny joke, but if anyone can identify that car, i will be extremely impressed. (hint: unsafe at any speed.)

Your "unsafe at any speed" comment (Ralph Nadir, misspelling intentional) would lead one down the Chevy Corvair path, but that is a never-produced 1962 Bertone Testudo.
( A Mercedes/Corvair connection is that John Fitch, who modified Corvairs for sale the way Shelby did Mustangs - but with less fame -- was the only American who raced for Team Mercedes.)

yes, it's a bertone testudo. but it was built as some kind of corvair prototype & was even badged as a corvair.

it was one of the more interesting cars i saw at a recent auto show for italian exotics here in new york.
(can you imagine how radical that car must have been in its day?)
kudos to lfrank.

Well - I suppose we're both right! Certainly not the Corvair my Grandpappy drove, anyway.
Further research shows that the Testudo was driven to Geneva by Bertone hisself for the 1963 Auto show ... where another certain automobile made its debut.

Thom, I could see your attachment, but I couldn't see it when you pasted the image. Here's what I think you meant to do:

Thom,
Thanks for sharing your pix. I see you also have a late-model silver Pagoda. I particularly like the contrasting hubcaps and hardtop with the optional roof trim. I think some of the early 107 SLs had that same contrasting hardtop color scheme, but it didn't last too long through the 70s. Guess it was mostly a 50s-60s thing......

Doug - that is exactly what I meant to do.  I just don't know how.  I went to the insert image icon, but it didn't give me a file option.  How did you do that with my picture?
