Pagoda On F1 track
« on: September 10, 2005, 06:41:22 »
Hi all!
Here are some pictures of my car on the Formula 1 track in istanbul. Since I am member of the Formula 1 organization here, I had the chance to have a few laps at the track even before the F1 cars.  :)
and this was the first classic car on the track.
best lap 5 min 38 seconds
track record after F1 1 min 18 seconds :)
not bad eh?
cheers

Welcome to the club
Great pics Kazil!  Pretty exciting "time" too  :D
Is your car lowered? What size tires are you using?
Did it feel fast "enough"?
Do you drive F1?
What are fuel prices like in Turkey?

Thanks a lot
the car is not lowered but the wheels are 15 inch and the tyres are 225/60 pirelli p7
surely it doesn't feel fast while driving this car. But it grips well. the seats were the problem actualy on the track because there are no lateral support, so you slid of the seat while cornering and you have to hang on to the steering wheel. :}
I wish i was racing F1 but no. I race some local stuff, and I am in the organizations of others.
the fuel prices are very very expencive in turkey but it's not due to these latest events. it was always high.
btw the name is Harun actualy, kizilsakal means red beard in Turkish.
I had posted pictures of this cars engine getting restored a few months ago. you can see the race car in the background if you are intrested
take care

thanks very much..
I mixed the color myself. so it's a custom color. I also have a silver hardtop so when that's installed its a two tone paint job.

Harun, very nice pics!  The 15 inch wheels are they hard to find?  I wouldn't mind getting a set for my car.

well, mine was pure luck. I was talking to a taxi driver on a trip in cyprus who also owned a 1977 280 ce. He said he'd be happy to trade with my 14 inch ones + something around 60 dollars in cash. I haven't seen many of these wheels here in turkey. Nut I think they are available in germany.

Hi Harun,
That's funny!  :)
Attached are two pictures of my Pagoda on another Formula 1 track: the "Circuit de Catalunya", in Barcelona (Spanish F1 Grand Prix). And a McLaren-Mercedes won in both tracks this year, with Kimi Raikkonen at the wheel [:p]
During the 10th anniversary celebration of the "Circuit de Catalunya", some classic car clubs were invited to turn in this F1 track... and it was really nice to drive the 230 SL there, even at not very high speed. The only problem was the weather, because it was raining.
Congratulations for your new circuit in Istanbul! It's one of the best modern tracks of the F1 championship.
Cheers!

Hi Albert
nice coincidence :)
Circuit de Catalunya is a very nice circuit too. some of my friends were there to see the organization and get some ideas, while we were planning the track here. I like the architecture of it very much.
but it's shame that it rained the day you were driving..
take care..

Hey Naj, Cees,
Quite obviously the tag of the white W107 begins with JES, as in Naj's last name.  Quite a feat that you managed to secure a personalised tag.

Hi naj,
Another nice coincidence!: In the first picture, the blue Pagoda is from the President of the Spanish MB Club (Cees met him in Mannheim two years ago), and the white Pagoda is from another member of the Spanish MB Club  :)
Where did you find these pictures? Is it possible to find them in better quality? Because it would be a nice surprise for these Spanish friends.
Best regards

the members here in California should check about renting the race track at Fontana for an event. there used to be so many good tracks like Ontario speedway when I was growing up. Now there is industrail office space.
Well its nice to see some of use with our Pagodas out rocking and rolling the old swing axel and smoking the tires. That is pure southern confort and hell raising.
