hi oil pressure reading
« on: September 15, 2005, 23:45:57 »
hello,

My 69 is running  for the first time after sitting for more than 10 years and the oil pressure guage jumps up to the top (3) upon ignition.  The pressure seemed to decrease slightly once driving.   Should I be concerned?  Engine temp is normal.  What to examine?

thanks,

brian

Hello Brian,
It is normal for the engine oil pressure to become lower and drop off the peg at idle as the engine warms up. The other variable is the  idle which will also change the oil pressure depending on your rpms at idle.

I become concerned when the oil pressure drops below 15psi. at 700 rpm idle and the engine at normal operating temperature 180 degree F. or less.
