Definitely a scam.

Hauser, you seem to be in the market for a 300 SL?

I consider it as looking at a work of art.  These cars are priced a bit out of my price range.  I also have to think about the wife.  Looking back about three or so years what I thought was expensive today seems like a bargain.

And I'm sure you'll be saying the same thing again three years from now.

This is what I got today:
Hello
Thank you for your interest in my '55 Mercedes Benz 300 SL Gullwing. First of all, the car is mint from front to rear so don't bother asking me questions like "is it running, does it leak, does it have scratches, rust.." or any similar questions. This car has always been garaged including at the present time, adult driven, never been wrecked.
The car is currently located in Vienna, Austria. I brought the car to Austria with the intention of importing it and driving it here, however I wasn't able to register it since it is considered an antique vehicle and I am supposed to pay huge fees to make it legal for European streets. i am supposed to start an individual procedure for the car through the austrian government and i really can't afford these expenses right now. I am currently in the process of purchasing a new house that is why i am selling the car. Financial reasons force this sale.
The vehicle is available for inspection/pick in Vienna (for local buyers or for cash payments vehicle inspection / pick up is available anytime during 4:00PM - 9:30PM Monday-Friday ). Also, shipping is available.
The price i am asking for it is $6,000 which includes shipping fees. I will not negotiate the price !
If you are seriously interested in buying please e-mail me your FULL NAME, COMPLETE ADDRESS, and PHONE # so we can start the arrangements!

Why is the auction removed from e-bay if he is still selling?

I'm guessing that's the seller's M.O. He posts a very enticing auction, gathers inquiries, the auction gets cancelled, then he follows up with anyone who made an inquiry and gives them a story about why HE pulled the auction. Very efficient scam. Totally off the radar of ebay. ebay merely facilitates the introduction.

Hi Guys: Look what I got out of eBay today:

"Hello
I appreciate you notifying SafeHarbor with your concern about fraudulent listing item #4596075678.

Please be aware that the item you were interested in has been ended
early and all bids have been cancelled, as it appears that the seller's
account has been compromised and used by an unauthorized third party.
The seller's privileges to trade on eBay may be temporarily suspended
while we investigate this matter further.

If this seller contacts you to complete a transaction outside of eBay,
we strongly recommend that you ignore the request. Transactions of this
nature are not covered by the Standard Purchase Protection services
offered by eBay.

If you have already sent payment, we advise you to take steps to protect
yourself depending on the nature of your payment. For example, if you
paid by personal check, you may stop payment on the check. If you paid
for this item with a credit card, you should contact your credit card
company's security department right away to inform them of the potential
problem with this payment -- most companies provide consumer protection
in these circumstances. If you have made a payment by money order or
wire transfer, you may contact that company for further information at
1-800-325-6000 (Western Union), or at 1-800-926-9400 (Money Gram).

We emphasize that there is no definitive information regarding the
seller or their items at this time, and our difficulties in confirming
information about the seller may be the result of a mistake or
misunderstanding.

Yeh, EBAY and PAYPAL Sure protect you!!! I got caught in a fraudulant deal that EBAY and PAYPAL knew about and my credit card was still charged. After many EMAILS and phone calls all I got credited back to my account was half the cost! I am still fighting with them. So watch out buying anything through PAYPAL!!!!!
