My '66 230 SL has those same 17 nipples plus an additional 3 on the driveshaft (2 at middle U-joint, 1 at rear U-joint) and 1 more for the intermediate steering lever bearing for a grand total of 21 nipples or mouths to feed depending on how you view it  :>)

It has a capacity relief vent .. you fill until it is evident at the vent.

Hey Arthur,

Where is the 'vent' located?

And is the drive shaft of Lillys' car standard for an early 250sl also?

Thanks

B,
It is 180 degrees around the other side of the driveshaft from the zerk fitting.
Part# 122-997-00-87  Pressure Relief Vent Valve.

If a 250 has U-joint zerks, they have been changed and are not original. The replacements have grease access....

There are a lot more places to lubricate than just the grease fittings. Most of these are with an oil can but the door hinges need a special pointed grease gun. I use something that is used for greasing the end of a chain saw blade.

hood hinges
all throttle linkage including the bearings at firewall
felt wick inside of distributor
oiler on outside of distributor
door latch
front wheel bearings ( during brake service )
brake pads should be free in the calipers and special high temp grease used on the metal backing
I like to use a small amount on the end of the prop rod so it will side easily

Countless other places that need a little bit of oil or grease during assembly such as heater cables, glove box door spring, rear pivot pin on drum brakes, etc.

For "sliding" lube I bought a tin of Mercedes sunroof lube about 10 years ago.  It may just be some very expensive vaseline, but it works great on exposed sliding parts (like latches and hood prop) and it seems to do a good job at staying fairly clean.  I think I have enough for another 100 years or so...

Hello Gus,

Yes, I use that sunroof grease also on any plastic lube jobs. I figure it must be formulated so as not to degrade plastic parts like regular grease?
