1930s 500K in Lebanon
« on: December 20, 2005, 13:41:38 »
Hello
I was very surprised to come across a 1930s 500K in Lebanon, The owner claims it was used by the German Embassy in Lisbon Portugal, (There is a Chrome Swastika on the flag pike in the front). It is now owned by a politician from one of the old families in Lebonon. He said it was bought in Geneva in the late 70s!!
These cars are coming out of the wood work here , amazing

Very impressive indeed. It is indeed very cool to hear about the really old cars coming more into the light.

Very nice! A Cabrolet even! Very valuable these days. In the early 70's they could be had for around $5,000. Probably worth well over $1,000,000 now days with its history.

Mal, you also have a nice collection! I suspect both your cars, 190SL and the 280SL are rare and valuable in lebanon?

Thanks Joe,
I know of about 7 190 SL and 9 113s in Lebanon, and 2 250Se Convertible
They are over priced here, becouse people do not base the price on the condition of the car they could fetch 50/60 K $ for an average condition,
I bought my 190 in Lebanon back in 1979 and 280sL and 250se CONV (Which I should finish the frame off restoration by next week - will post photos then-) from the USA last year.
Since we do not have any expert restores here, I set up shope im my wharehouse and hired 2 full time "Artisits" one for body work and the other for the paint, and I have refurbished all three cars and am working on Another Pagoda 1968.
I got all the interior for the cars from Gahh
Regards

Thanks Mal for your work in bringing nice Pagodas to Lebanon.
I went back to spend time this summer and saw two Pagadas for sale
and both car dealers were asking $30K - the cars were in very bad shape. I think the high cost in Lebanon is due to Custom charges.

Recently, I have seen this nice article about Mercedes in Lebanon

http://www.geocities.com/MotorCity/Speedway/5350/lebanon.htm

It appeared in a German car magazine "Auto Bild" first. It sums
up the ancient tie of Lebanses people to these lovely cars. The
article has many funny pictures of how to actualy make use of
an old MB car.
