I thought I had to post this picture of the heep of rusted parts that was changed while restoring the 280SL...

That is scary; and my fear is that I have a larger pile in my garage sitting amid four tires and hidden behind a coat of paint!

No, that's not scary.
I even think it's a good (i.e. small, below average) amount that was necessary to be replaced. Can be much worse (as in my case) although car can still have looked very nice before.

Yikes, a lot of rust in there.
Shows the true testament that these cars are indestructible.
I used to work in the junkyard and we got this extremely rusty 250SE coupe that had been partially stripped.  I then wanted to get the driveshaft out of it without having to put it on a lift.
So I got it out and then decided to see if it would collapse if I did a clear cut across the floor, tranny hump and the rockers(what was left of them).  Upon finishing I expected the car to collapse on the floor, but it didn't.  The roof and posts were holding it together-wow!
