Hi guys recently purchased a 280 sl, dont know were the paint code is can any one help

Welcome to the world of Pagoda!
Your paint codes will be on a metal plate on the inner fender/drivers or left hand side.
There are several sets of numbers, but generally it's the third line which should have two sets of 3 numbers with a letter after each set
example 834G  834G which when compared to the color charts available on this site and other places would tell you 834 is Moss Green Metallic and the G means it was Glasurit manufactured paint, and the second set is the color of the hard top
Your code is likely 501 Winerot, same as mine is now, though my original color is as above. It's not uncommon to find these cars have been repainted a different MB color.

This thread has a post by Douglas with a pic of a data plate.  It was a car without a hard top, so it only has one color code.

Ummm.... absolutely right it's the first line of numbers...not the third...enjoying a seniors moment ( and I'm still 12 years from a pension..... yikes....)
