Most anything you can do to keep out foreign particles and to keep the pump from drying out would be acceptable. One way would be to remove the pump and plug all the openings and thoroughly clean the outside of the pump. Then remove the plugs and submerge the pump in a light weight oil, cover and store. The pump can be stored indefinitely this way, and be in a usable condition when needed. I would NOT recommend anything like carb cleaner, fuel oil, Marvel Mystery oil or anything else that could destroy the "rubber" seals. This may be an overkill but is is effective. I am ssure you can think of other ways that would be just as effective.
I like to store things like injectors in carb cleaner or Marvel Mystery Oil. This will help loosen up any crud in or on the injectors. This soaking along with a trip through an ultrasonic cleaner will generally leave the injectors bright and shinny, and servicable. And, occasionally a defective injector can be salvaged this way.
Any wayg Good luck
