230 SL California Coupe?
« on: February 24, 2006, 11:09:18 »
Hello,

I was wondering if the early 230 series were available in the "California Coupe".
Also are the C.C.'s less desirable than one with both tops?

Thanks!

I think they might be, if only from practicality concerns.
For some reason I thought they were only 250.

Hello,

The softtop-less "California Coupés" with rear seat bench (not jump seat) were only available from 250 SL's production start on until run-out of 280 SL.
230ies have always softtop compartments.

The California Coupes are much less desirable. Figure about a $4,000 deduction from the price that a car in similar condition but with both tops would command.

Cees is right.  As the owner of a Coupe, I can tell you that there are times that I wish I had a rag top, but the back seat is a great place for my two small dogs.  It's great because they don't need leg room... there isn't any. I have had many fine days rolling around topless, but it requires a bit of attention to weather.

I do love the car with the roof on.  It's the Pagoda part of Pagoda.  I also have a BMW Cabriolet and my lady has a VW Cabrio so, for me, the Coupe is just fine.

(I had an Acura coupe until December.  I got flipped over in the rain on I-95 and was real glad not to have been driving a drop top that day.)
