Another Nice One on Ebay????
« on: March 06, 2006, 15:37:21 »
This car looks nice being a late 71 build but I'm concerned about the paint. It isn't painted in the engine compartment and has paint "lifting" around the cowl.$38K spent and not restored, just "refreshened". Looking for a late 71 but not sure if this is the right car. Does anyone know this car or have an opinion on the condition?

Not sure why, but I just don't see this being of the quality of that last one we watched on Ebay. This one strikes me as overpriced. Part of this is the presentation of the ad, I suppose.

If you are seriously in the market and this car is not too far away (although, are you not located in Florida and this car in Texas?), it seems worthwhile to check out in person to me. Perhaps the seller is willing to deal on the price. I am not too keen on the color myself, but that's of course a matter of personal taste.

It might be a great car. I too do not care for red. Particularly this candy-red. But I sometimes wear white socks with sandals, so my esthetic sense isn't something I promote.

Hi All,
This is my car.  First let me apologize for the format of the listing... I think it is fixed now.  It looked fine on my Mac, but a friend let me know there was a formatting problem with the HTML.  The listing is a little easier to read now.

The car is nice.  I am not selling it as "Restored", because to me that means the car is taken completely apart, and every piece refinished to new (or better) condition or replaced.  What happened to this car is a wealthy owner turned it over to a reputable shop in Raleigh and said "fix everything on the car and make it look nice".  This on an unlimited budget resulted in what we have here: An extremely solid car that had a wad of cash spent on it.

The other issue on this car is the lateness of production.  I think it means something.  I tried to locate ANY later cars by looking and inquiring on the net and I was unsuccessful... so I do not know how many, if any, later cars exist.  I think that is pretty cool.

The color looks better in person than in photos.  Some people really like it.  It seems to fit the period of the Pagoda.  I added the "right" alloy wheels to tone it down a bit, and that helped.

I appreciate people looking at the car.  Maybe I paid too much, but I priced it a just little over what I have in it,  The market will tell us all what it is worth, and I can find a Pagoda that fits me better, and this car hopefully will end up with the right owner.

Thanks,

John, description looks much better. And I commend you on your honesty -- here and in the ad. I hope my initial thoughts didn't offend, I was comparing yours to another Ebay car that we all salivated over -- not really fair to do. Anyway, it is a nice looking car -- someone may want one of the more unique shades of red. Good luck.

Having a "dark red" car myself, it's good to see a 113 in something other than Stop sign red. :D

Hello Mike,
That might defeat the whole point of stopping traffic to admire our esteemed cars.

Well, The car did not sell, so at least in this market at this time, the price may have been too high.  I have relisted at $5000 less than before.

I hope I have not been too critical in my description.  The car is very nice, and has documented mileage and ownership history rivaling any car out there.  Not to mention the extremely late production number.

We'll see... Thanks

John B.,

I just got my copy of The Star and your car was not in it.  Are you an MBCA member?  You could also contact John Olsen at www.slmarket.com and get your ad in there, too.

Rodd,
I am a MBCA member, but I have not placed an ad there.  It has been more of an "impulse sell", and I thought I would get more exposure on eBay.  If it does not sell at the reduced price, I think I should cool off and place the print ad that will put the car in front of more serious Pagoda fans.  Olsen is certainly a stalwart in SL marketing.

I guess since I have a somewhat unique car admittedly price at the high end if nonshow cars, these sales avenues might be more productive.  Thanks for the input
