fuel regulator / damper question

while installing new fuel lines & connections I have a stuck banjo connection to the fuel dampner / regulator on the return line from the injection pump.

If I cannot get the bolt off should I just replace the entire dampner?
also, the dampner is probably original, should I just go ahead and get a rebuild kit or do these last forever?

Adding further to Matt's questions, since this damper is rarely discussed:

What is the life expectancy of a damper?

Are they rebuildable or inexpensive enough to just replace?

What's the probability of one going bad?

Matt and JP,

the fuel damper is just a damper, not a regulator; it's just a thick rubber diaphram between the metal halves.  I replaced the diaphram on mine and the old one looked perfect.  I think Naj may have had the same experience.  Easy enough to do, so what the heck.

If the banjo bolt is stuck, I suppose there are a couple of options.  First, replace the whole thing; I'd look for a used one.  Second, cut around the banjo end that the bolt goes through to relieve the pressure on the threads, with luck it will then come apart.  Third, remove the unit and fill the chamber that connects to the banjo with pentrating oil, let soak, hit it a few times, and hope that loosens it.  Good luck!

SLS has new regulators for 77 euro or about $98 us.
so, I guess If I destroy mine I can afford to get a replacement.

well, after soaking the banjo connection I still could not break the nut loose.
so, removed the whole dampner, slapped a 19 mm impact socket on my impact gun and sure enough after a few quick bursts the nut came loose.

took the opportunity to glass bead blast the dampner while it was out , re installed the new hoses and installed the unit.
sure looks a lot better.
