Hi can anyone help finding the paint code for my 280 sl it maroon red type original and also I was thinking of changing the colour to black with red leather. Just to get some advise from the experts as this is my first pagoda.

Thanks

Shaf,

Welcome to the club! Try the search function on this site as well as the "database" listings to help become more familiar with your "new" car. The paint codes are listed in the database in detail and you can find your three digit number on a plate in the engine compartment on the left side. As a reference, mine is 670.

Good luck!

Shaf,

Yes, do a search.  Mine turned up this thread, which actually was started by you!

Hello Shaf,

Your 280 might be 501 as indicated before (I cannont prove this now) or 542 ("dark red").

Look for the 3-digit number(s) on the plate like 542 G 542 G

(G = Glasurit, H = Herberts).

My 2 humble cents: keep it dark red. It's beautiful and not too common. Very elegant.

Best,

Shaf,

Then your best move is to use your registration or title and get a Data Card from M-B.  That will have all your codes on it.
