Option codes 280 & 608
« on: May 15, 2006, 21:34:43 »
Hi all,
I am looking at a data card that has the codes 280 and 608.  These are not listed on the data base.  Does anyone know what they refer to?  Since 281 is 3 piece luggage maybe 280 is for 2 piece??

Thanks

Looks like two piece trunk set for 280SL and trim strips on hard top.

Thanks.  It does have the hardtop trim strips so 608 must be for that.  Both our data base and the Japanese code list also shows 600 for the trim strips.

The late Frank Mallory had a silver 250sl with luggage and he referred to code 280 as a 3 piece luggage set.  See link below:

The Japanese site listing codes also calls for code 280 to be 3 piece luggage.

608 is a combination code for 600 plus 601; "garnish mouldings" (trim strips) on hardtop and extra oil for limited slip differential

My father also ordered the luggage gallery 3 peice suitcases and luggage rack. When you ordered the luggage rack that fits on top of the roof you got the reinforced chrome steel garnish molding on the hardtop to secure it too. One of the other optional accessories I have never seen is the luggage rack cover used to cover I guess the suitcases.
With Douglas Kim help I looked at the computer generated cards I got when my father purchased his 1968 280SL European delivery and found code 462 fog lights rear. I donot remember a fog light so could this be construed for the parking lights for left and right whe n the headlight switch is turned to the left ?
I am looking for the correct fitted luggage I only have one small suitcase.

I have a car that has rear window defrost for the hard top. How rare is that? I can't remember ever seeing this on any other car.

No.  The rear fog light is an "add-on" light, I believe it mounted to the left rear chrome bumper.
