No Spark at plug wire
« on: August 13, 2006, 13:41:44 »
I have once again fixed my car until it is broken.
I have placed new ignition parts (ALL) and car will not start.

I have good spark at points when pushed open.

I have NO SPARK AT PLUGS...
 ANY IDEAS?[:(!]

About ready to quit for today!

Hello Ernie,

Try to get a spark at the high tension coil wire next. Leave the end on the coil and try to get spark at the other end. If no spark, the coil or coil wire is bad. If you have spark then the rotor must be bad or the distritutor is not turning for some reason (maybe it is not down all the way).  Keep in touch! Good Luck!

Hello Ernie,

Good news, was a inexpensive and easy fix! Are you referring to the crimp connector on the end of the ignition point wire? I have seen this happen, it can rotate and ground out against the breaker plate in the distributor when tightening the little nut. Later distributors had the spade connector which could not do this.

Joe sorry I cant seem to post but not the ignition wire on points but the small braid that attaches near the vac retard advance rod. It is soldered to the bottom advance plate... what is purpose of this wire? Because my car runs without it. Although not perfect my car runs without this wire. This is the tenth try at posting.
