lower fuel pressure going uphill?
« on: June 07, 2006, 08:23:34 »
Group,

it's been a while since I last participated but I have been reading posts with great interest. Also, I have done extensive searches on the a.m. topic but couldn't find an answer.

Does fuel pressure go down when going uphill? I think it should, after all, the pump has to overcome greater resistance by pumping upwards, right?

This and and my assumption that I have a totally gunked up tank shroud fuel filter would give an explanation why my engine cuts out at higher revs going uphill...

Grateful for your insight!

Hello Juergen,

It is normal for the fuel pressure to vary sligtly. Since these are DC motors the revolutions of the pump vary slightly with engine rpms. These minor variations should not cause running problems.

You probably have a fuel delivery problem. Do a fuel volume and pressure check first, then check all the filters and screens if the test shows low pressure  or volume. Good luck. Let us know if you need more specific information.
