That's neat Dick. Thanks.
Staying cool over in your neck of the woods? The pool and the Lake trump the Pagoda right now (at least between the hours of 10AM and 6PM!).

Correct me if I am wrong but....
The end says "5th generation SL"
W198 (300SL)
W121 (190SL
W113 (230-280SL)
R107 (panzerwagens)
R129 (the old SL)
R230 (the new SL)
I make that SIX generations. Or do we suddenly not count the W121 (not shown in the video)?

Hello Tosh,
Personally I think "5th generation" is correct.
Th W198 (gullwing & roadster) and the W121 ar not really different generations; they are just different models of the same generation. Both were presented in New York in 1954, the Fluegeltuerer immediately started production run then but the 190 SL took one year longer.

Hello Tosh,
Watched the video for you again ;) .
The 190 SL was shown at the beginning of the video for several seconds. Longer than the W113.

I wish I could get some of the early 1968 commericals. It shows a Mercedes a voidinga truck that pulls out and the high wall at the test track. Does anyone know were these commericals are?

That's right.  But two very different people, an Olympic athelete and a "couch potato" who lived at the same time are said to be of the same generation.  So, as you said, "same timing".  Same generation.
