Contest - who has owned their Pagoda the longest
« on: July 13, 2003, 12:53:20 »
I am curious as to who has owned their W113 SL for the longest time ... I suggest that years in the family (you may have inherited your SL from your father for example) is the determining factor. Anyone?

That's going to be tough to beat - unless there's some pre-1965 (or earlier in 1965) owners here?

It's going to be tough for me, I am the first owner of a German car in my family and my Pagoda was born the same year I was..... :)

I've owned my 230 sl just over two years now.
I've spent more time and effort (and parts !!!!) on it than anything I owned before. I've even learnt the most in that short space of time about a car.
No prizes then??

I've only had my 230 for ten years but I have cars here that I've owned for over 20 years. Never driven them either ( sigh)

Cees,
Our 1968 280SL has been in my family since new Build January 1968 deliveried in Germany at the European Delivery center. So it make owner ship in one family 35 years. All shipping papers and manafest including factory envoice from Germany all saved with factory owners manuals and warrenty plate used for idenifying customers.

I can only go back to 1970 when my fater purchased my 1968 280SL used. I liberated it from storage 2 years ago and have been bringing it back slowly. I found something interesting when I was cleaning out the glove box this weekend. Under the 1965 Washington DC street map was a stamped metal plate with what I guess was the first owner's name and address and the VIN and engine number stamped into it. Does anyone out there know if this was something MB sent with delivery to the owner or dealer? The plate is a little larger than a business card.

Yes, that's an owner's plate.  Came with all cars in that era.  I don't have one for my W113, but I've seen them for a W123 and a W114.

I have owned my 230SL for just over a year but I wanted one when I got my license back in 1964 when it was new. That should count for something
