What are the disadvantages of not using a fan cluth other than warming up slower?

In one word, noise.
My 66, 230ls had a metal 5 blade fan with no clutch installed, my guess as part of the Kuhlmeister A/C package. It made it sound like a Cesna on takeoff when the motor was above 4000 rpm.
Also lots of motor drag I have heard as much as 5-10 hp

Hi

I have a 64 230 sl euro without AC with original 4 blade fixed fan no clutch and no shroud. It heats up normal and no noice. There is usual cold weather here in Norway and but there is no problem to heat up.I thinks this is the normal setup for a 230 sl in europe.?

Is there anyone not using a fan clutch on a 280SL?  Does it work well?
