I always appreciate the fact that someone posted this late-60s factory brochure on the Web:

That's a nice one. Thanks Douglas. It would be very instructive to anyone restoring the engine bay...I always find it amazing that when new, the engines were so colorful. Mine has turned an almost monochrome gray over the years.

Douglas... this is really terrific! Nice that you found it and even nicer that you shared it with the rest of us. I was able to print it on a glossy card stock... pretty snazzy in my collection of MB stuff!
THANKS!!!

Not to be greedy, but would anyone have a similar snapshot of the 230SL engine bay? (in color?)... By the way, thanks for the blow-up DZ.

I collected the sales brochures on the 230SL, 250SL and 280/sl early and late.the 1967 brochure on the introduction of the 280SL is prehaps the most sought after brochure with the exception of the 230SL brochure. The engine photgraph is used by every one to reference the engine bay.
On Ebay I was able to fine the two later brochures for the 280SL in English . On one of the orginal 1967 280SL brochures my father picked up their is a fupaw in on the specification sheet under lined saying 200 MPH .
collecting these brochures and sales material is good to answer questions about your car . I have noticed that some pictures show European interior arm rest and early style two peice hubcaps from the230SL & early 250SL. However these cars are mules for photo to fill the brochures and people hardly pay attention by the time their car arrives and is ready to be deliveried ajustments to production had been made to suite USA regulations.
Still they are nice to have as part of your cars history.
My father beat a ticket in court showing the judge thebrochure and explaining how safe the car was. Buut that was back in early days.

Yes James,
I have got a pic of the (very early) 230 SL factory engine bay.
It was published in the 1st 230 SL brochure. It's beautiful - my favorite SL pic.
I am going to scan and upload it later. Can take a few days ...

Interesting:  this photo shows four rubber bumpers on the top of the firewall.  I had thought there were originally only three?

Did you also notice how the tension rod is body color and the latching mechanism is black? Clearly, this is an early 230 SL.

Of all the prospects catalogues for the model 280SL the 1967 cataloge seems to me and I think to others to be the pinical of the best catalogue for this model. Sort of like the Beatles white album cover. This catalogue also commands the most in resale valve when you can fine them for sale.
