History of my car

Hi - I bought a 1966 230SL in Dec '04 (Melbourne Australia).  Unfortunately I only know the history of the car going back around 10 years.  I have managed to find some information about it through obtaining a data card from Mercedes Germany and doing a search with the local Car Registry in Melbourne. I know that it was first delivered in the UK (October 1966).  It has a built date of 1965.  I believe it was imported into Australia in 1989.  I think it was not in the best condition when it was imported into Australia but has since at the hands of the previous owners and in my hands undergone a fairly good restoration.  It is still in its orginal colour - horizon blue body with a dark blue hard top.  

Does anyone have any ideas on how I can find out more about the history of my car.

I had to write to them with proof that I was the owner of the car and a five pound fee and they provided all the details of previous owners and addresses. Its a good start to gathering history...
