What can I use from a sedan parts car for my 71 280SL?   I assume the engine and the transmission are the same.  Is there anything else worth taking?

Hello,
Inside window cranks, steering box, most suspension parts. Only 1967 and 1968 sedans had the same automatic transmissions. engine, injection pump, steering wheel ignition, wheel covers, wheels, most brake parts, side marker lights, lots of heater control parts, dash knobs, lighter, oil cooler, misc relays, flashers, fuse box cover, windshield wiper arms (if correct years), starter, voltage reg and alternator in many cases, horns on early sedans, gas tank sending units, dash clocks in a pinch (not internally illuminated), lots of other misc.

A 71 sedan has a different auto trans than the pagoda. Stick shift comonents are interchangable though. I always cut off electrical connectors from cars I parted out. They come in handy if the old plastic breaks when unplugging a component. And things like the rubber boots and gromets are handy to keep around.

Can someone confirm that the 280SE sedan has the same transmission as the 280SL?

Hello bcjm,
The transmissions are the same or different depending on the year of the sedan. The early 280S, SE sedans had the same transmission (1967, 1968)as the W113 cars. Many erlier sedans 220SE 230S, 250S, SE were also the same as the W113s.

In your case, on that 280SE, simply look at the bolts on the tranmission pan. If it has 16 bolts it is the same. If it has four it will not work.
