cold start valve missing
« on: September 04, 2006, 19:09:59 »
so, pulled the cold start valve housing this weekend to verify the selenoid worked and the jets were cleaned.

went to pull the valve and spring from the fitting and neither were there.  in their place was a bolt and a set of washers.  I have no idea why someone would do this.  The seat for the valve is ruined,  it is now threaded for the bolt.

any suggesions?  I would hate to replace the entire csv body when what I need is the valve, spring and seat.

on the upside the selenoid worked fine and the o rings were in good shape but I replaced them with new one.

Given the history of your car "running rich", it would appear this was a bad mechanic's fix for a leaky CSV.  Not sure if the CSV can be repaired (thread grooves re-filled, etc).  If the 230 CSV's are interchangeable with the 250/280 versions, perhaps you can find a good used one at a recycler...

Waqas,
so, this is starting to make sense.  the mechanics notes stated the plugs were fouled etc..  the car was probably running rich.

when I pulled the thermostat for the injection pump I tried to test it using hot and cold water,  it did not budge.

my guess is the thermostat was stuck in the cold position and was not opening to reduce the fuel as the car warmed up .

so  now I need a new thermostat and a housing for the csv.

Waqas,
talked to ray at buds benz,  according to him he can send this off for rebuild at bosch.  the cost is about 275.00 us.

much cheaper than gernold at sl tech he wants 475 for a rebuilt one with out a core.  I guess he wants 100 for the core.

mb new is rediculus, over 1,000
