Brakes: discs or drums
« on: August 29, 2006, 18:29:00 »
Did the 113's ever have drums on all corners?  Everything I have read says that they always came with discs in front and drums in the back(the early ones).  The reason I ask is that I am looking at a car and the owner tells me that his car has drums in the front and that was original.  Could he be mistaken? Or am I.

190sl's had drum brakes all around, and so did the 111 sedans from the very early 60's.
It could be possible that the front subframe from one of these early sedans was installed as a (very bad) repair on the the car, but I can't imagine why.
Insist that the seller let you take a front wheel off. If either there are front drum brakes, or the seller won't allow you to look, run, don't walk away. Good Sl's are not that hard to find.

I'm from Missouri, the Show-Me state.
