280SL auto trans leak

My 280SL has been sitting for a while and has started to leak transmission fluid that seems to be a good leak. I have some raamps and wanted to know how to check were it may be comming from.
One of my questions is if it is the tork  convertor can that be replaced with out replacing the hole transmission. If it is a seal on the modualtor valve can that be repaired with out taking the transmission out.
any help or advice would be appreciated.

The torque convertor (or equivalent device that I will refer to as "that doughnut thing") can be rebuilt pretty reasonably. I did that on my last Pagoda.

Hello Bob,

If the modulator diaphram is ruptured you would be blowing a lot of white smoke out the exhaust.  Sometimes seals will seap a little from lack of use. Possibly the oil pan cork gasket or filler tube connnection can be leaking. Any idea of the location of the leak?
