Fuel Injection pump oil capacity
« on: May 01, 2007, 18:27:03 »
I have searced the forums and have found the oil capacity for the early F/I pump mentioned anywhere from 180ml, too 250ml & 300ml. Which is correct? The manuals I have do not give the capacity for this early F/I pump. The dip stick is diffuclt to read because of the clear oil. It appears to be at the full mark. I know that to drain the oil you must suck it out from the dip stick opening & not the fill hole. I ask about this capacity because my pump leaks oil & I can't tell where the leak comes from. It appears it is comming from the very botton of the pump but not sure. Is there a gasket on the bottom of the pump? There is no oil leaking from the rear area of the pump where the govener adjusting screw is.

Hey Paul,
When I change the oil in my Inj Pump, I add about 150-180ml and then run the engine and check the level.
Generally I run my oil level at about halfway up the dip stick.
I monitor the level closely because I think there is a leak of the internal oil seal. However the level has not changed recently. I put that down to the fact that I have been using the car quite regularly.

Is it possible that the side cover seal is leaking?

Make sure you screw the dip stick in completely for measurement of oil level.  Otherwise, you will overfill it.
