Sudden Transmission Slippage
« on: November 29, 2006, 23:34:55 »
Hi Folks,

My 1966 230SL suddenly developed a slipping transmission.  Other than moving it from a cold storage to a warm storage, there was nothing done to it.  It has always had a firm shift, although after reading some of the threads, I realize it has the shift problem some of the other folks have mentioned (shifts from 2nd to 4th.)

Does this sound like the acutator?  Any tips?

Thanks as usual,

Allen Frechette

ATF leak? Did you check the fluid level?

Make sure you tranmission 3 way solenoid linkage is not stuck in the idle position.

Yes, the fluid is up.  I will check the linkage.  I don't have a BBB, so have to rely on a very lame Chiltons.  I think there's enough detail in the strings of the postings for me to figure out how to make sure it's working.

Thanks,

Allen
