King pin polishing?

When I brought my spindles and king pin to the machinist to be reamed, he noted the new king pin was rather rough were it would be in contact with the brass sleeves. Is this normal? He recommended polishing them, should I?

The king pin surface should be very smooth. Cleaning off the surface corrosion with steel wool should be enough. It should not need to be "polished".
